Steven Reid says he and his teammates are playing for their West Bromwich Albion futures.
The experienced full-back is out of contract in the summer along with Billy Jones and Zoltan Gera, while a number of players are approaching decision time on contract options.
Reid told the Express & Star: "You've got to get things straight in your mind no matter what you're thinking.
"If you're moving on at the end of the season, if you're going back to your own club, if you're out of contract or even if you're retiring, relegation is no good to anyone.
"No matter what your agenda or your thinking is going into the summer, relegation is not going to look good on the CV.
"Staying in the league is going to help your personal contract situation and your future.
"We are all knuckling down and everyone has to get it into their heads that relegation is no good."
