Reid urges West Brom fans to support Irvine

Steven Reid insists new West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Irvine will be positive for the club.

Reid is leaving the Albion after coming off contract.

He told the Birmingham Mail: "I almost signed for Alan when he was at Sheffield Wednesday but I actually chose to come on loan to West Brom instead when they were pushing for promotion.

"But we're both based in the north west and our paths have crossed. I've only heard good things about his coaching methods and I hope the fans give him some time.

"I know he's probably not the person supporters expected but he needs a chance. I've come across him and I worked with Rob Kelly at Blackburn, who I have a large amount of respect for.

"West Brom are in good hands in that respect because they still have Keith (Downing) and Dean (Kiely), who really were absolutely massive in making sure we stayed up last season - you cannot underestimate how important they were to the club when things were going badly.

"I really hope people get behind Alan and give him that chance."
