Redknapp will not take Derby job - 'I am only here to help'

Harry Redknapp has ruled out any possibility of becoming the next permanent manager of Derby County.

Redknapp was appointed as 'football advisor' to work alongside interim boss Darren Wassall recently and there have been suggestions that the former Tottenham and QPR manager could even take over the reins if the Rams struggle over the next few weeks.

However, Redknapp has gone on to rule out any prospect of becoming the next manager at Derby and has stated that Wassall will remain in charge at least until the end of the season.

The 69-year-old said: "No chance. I will not be manager of Derby County this season.

"Darren is here until the end of the season and hopefully many years to come. The chairman has said Darren is managing until the end of the season and that he's good enough. That's what he told me. He is the manager.

"If for any reason he doesn't stay until the end of the season and he goes I will not take over as manager - I will go as well.

"I'm here to help until the end of the season, that's it.

"If we go up who knows what could happen next season? The chairman may say he wants me to come back next year. But I'm only looking at these nine games, plus possibly the play-offs."

Redknapp will be present at iPro Stadium for the weekend's Championship clash with east midlands enemies Nottingham Forest before jetting off to take care of the Jordanian national team for their pair of World Cup qualifiers against Bangladesh and Australia.
