Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has questioned whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is capable of stopping Manchester United's decline.
Redknapp also doubts whether United can find the players needed to improve the team.
He stated: "Manchester United are miles away from Tottenham, I think Tottenham are miles better than them. Spurs haven't got a big job, they just have to rebuild the confidence within the squad and get back to where they were. Manchester United can't do that because they don't have good enough players.
"It's no good saying that you (Ole and Man Utd) have a five-year plan. Good luck! You don't get a five-year plan, you get six games. If you lose five or six games off the spin, suddenly you're in trouble – that's how the game is.
"Eventually (the fans could turn on Ole), if it goes on the way it is at the moment. However, he can only do what he can with what he's got. He's inherited a team that's in decline, they're not going forward they're going backwards. People say they need five new players, where are you going to find five new players that these people are talking about? You're not going to get Messi or Ronaldo, who's going to sell you their best players?
"Getting the best players takes a long time, it's like a jigsaw. For example, “I need a left winger", you have a look and take your time, suddenly someone becomes available. You can't suddenly get four or five players and build a strong new team, it's impossible."
