Really? Stats write positive story for Man Utd midfielder Fred

Manchester United midfielder Fred's stats for defeat at Bournemouth place the Brazilian in a positive light.

While Fred was criticised by watching pundits, he proved the most effective United player on the day.

The Manchester Evening News says Fred was key to keeping things ticking over in midfield, completing 88 per cent of his passes - more than any other United starter. He wasn't passing for the sake of it either, playing three key passes for his teammates, no one else on the field managed more.

He created United's best chance, picking out Mason Greenwood with his weaker foot but the youngster couldn't finish. Fred also attempted more dribbles (3) than any United player bar Marcus Rashford (3) and completed every single one of them. He had more touches of the ball (86) than anyone else bar Victor Lindelof (86).

Not only was the midfielder United's best player going forward, he also helped out defensively to ensure his side stayed on the front foot. He won 7/11 duels, won two out of three tackles, completed two clearances and made two interceptions.
