Real Sociedad striker Brais Mendez says his winner at Manchester United was something personal for him.

Mendez scored the winner from the spot in Real Sociedad's win over United in the Europa League earlier this month.

The forward played for Celta Vigo when United defeated them in the 2017 Europa League semi-finals and it had left a bitter taste in his mouth.

Speaking to Noticias de Gipuzkoa, he explained: “The goal at Old Trafford was a personal revenge. It was a bit of personal revenge for the defeat of Celta in those semi-finals.

“It was my debut in a new competition in Europe, in a big match, in a powerful stadium and scoring there [Old Trafford] is a mark."
