Real Sociedad are eyeing Newcastle United midfielder Mikel Merino.

While Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has insisted he is counting on Merino for next season, the Spaniard continues to attract interest from the LaLiga.

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder is a target for Real Betis, while Mundo Deportivo says Real Sociedad are also keen.

While he is happy on Tyneside, Merino is willing to listen to Spanish offers.

For their part, the only way Newcastle would agree to sell is if La Real better the £8m they paid Dortmund for his signing last year.
