Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino insists Martin Odegaard is good enough for Real Madrid.

Odegaard is in the first of a two-season loan with La Real, though such has been his form that talk has emerged of the winger returning to Madrid early.

Merino told AS: "If Martin continues in this way, then Real Madrid will wait for him and be ready to welcome him.

"Whether it be this year, next year or some other time in the future. I hope we get him another year."

The midfielder added: "He has the individual qualities to play in Real Madrid. He is good enough and can go into a starting lineup. The problem with Madrid is that they have a different style of play. One does not know how he will perform in that style."
