Real Sociedad have enjoyed winding up transfer rumour mongerers with an announcement that Martin Odegaard is joining Manchester City.

La Real used the Dia de los Inocentes - Spain's version of April Fools' Day - to state that the Norwegian will join Manchester City on loan.

"Real Sociedad have reached an agreement for the loan of Martin Odegaard to Manchester City until the end of the current season," La Real's tweet read.

"The Txuri Urdin wants to thank Martin for the professionalism and commitment shown during his stay at our club from July to today, while wishing him the best for his personal and professional future until next season."

They continued their message in a joking tone.

"We are forced to take this difficult decision to avoid the taboo that was waiting for us during the next six months from certain media outlets. What peace!"
