Real Salt Lake owner Dell Loy Hansen has revealed that the club is on the verge of securing Joao Plata to a long-term deal.
The 22-year old Ecuadorian forward, who joined RSL from Toronto FC in January 2013, is set to be rewarded with a five-year contract according to an interview with Hansen on ESPN700.
Hansen spoke of the potential Plata deal which will come in the wake of three-year contracts signed by captain Kyle Beckerman and goalkeeper Nick Rimando.
"We're just at the cusp of signing Plata to a five-year contract. There's a few dollars to write that check, but we want Plata there," Hansen said.
"We recently cemented agreements with Kyle and Nick to be with us the next three years. I feel the team is in a more stable position than it's been in for a very long time."
Plata had a standout season for the Western Conference's third-placed side, scoring 13 goals in 28 outings, which was a vast improvement on his four goals in 2013.
