Real Madrid will move for Chelsea keeper Courtois…if they miss out on De Gea

Real Madrid have Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois as their backup plan this summer.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague told Sky Sports News HQ that Real remain keen on Manchester United's David De Gea but will make a move for Courtois if they miss out on the Spaniard.

De Gea almost joined the Spanish giants last summer but a deal fell over at the last minute and it is believed that they could again go for his services in the next transfer window.

However, the departure of Louis van Gaal and expected appointment of Jose Mourinho may see De Gea stay at Old Trafford which could prompt Zinedine Zidane to pursue Belgium international Courtois.

"There is a private agreement by which Real Madrid could actually get David de Gea if they pay 50m euros. There is a time limit to that," said Balague.

"I'm pretty sure Mourinho will want De Gea to stay but it will be a decision that will involve both De Gea and Real Madrid.

"At the beginning of the season everyone expected De Gea to be the next Galactico but now the situation has changed, not only because Jose Mourinho has arrived at Manchester United, but also Keylor Navas has done really well.

"So what Real have done in recent weeks in case they don't get De Gea, is try to convince Thibaut Courtois to go to Real Madrid."
