Real Madrid have rebuffed Liverpool's advances for 17-year-old starlet Martin Odegaard.

Spanish publication Marca is reporting the Reds had hoped to bring the player to Anfield on loan for the remainder of the season.

It is understood Madrid's preference was to continue developing the Norwegian international through their own systems, rather than allow him to seek first team action elsewhere.

Odegaard is one of the most highly-touted teenagers in world football, having made his debut for Los Blancos on the final day of last season's La Liga campaign.
