Real Madrid striker Benzema happy with new deal; reflects on best achievements

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is delighted signing a new deal to 2023.

Benzema had the chance to look back at his greatest achievements and what lies ahead for him in the Spanish capital.

Having played through one of the club's golden eras, lifting the Champions League title in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018, it was an obvious place to start.

"Real Madrid will always keep being the best team in the world, but I think that in the Champions League era we were a team that I can't say was unbeatable, but winning four Champions League is something special," Benzema told the club's official media channels.

"Winning once is very difficult and we did it three times in a row, we defined an era with that team and we're going to define another era in the future."

Benzema also looked back to 2009, when he first joined the club for a fee of 40 million euros from Olympique Lyonnais, despite interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs.

"It was a long time ago, but I remember it, of course," Benzema admitted.

"My parents and my agent called me to tell me to go home, I didn't want to but when I got there, I saw Florentino [Perez].

"This man had brought Zizou, Ronaldo, the Galacticos... I was looking at him and I didn't say anything, he only asked if I wanted to play at Real Madrid and I said yes. When I see what I have done at Real Madrid now, I feel very proud."
