Five years of exile under Didier Deschamps, that is exactly what Benzema has lived through from an international perspective, with his attempts to either be recalled or represent Algeria both having been knocked back.

There has been some unpleasantries swapped from both sides, but after two seasons where Benzema's form with Real Madrid has been nothing short of stupendous, Deschamps could no longer make a case to leave the forward out.

According to Unisports data, sales of French shirts have gone up by 2,400 percent since Benzema's return was announced in Deschamps' official squad list.
