Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has accepted defeat in attempts to secure Raphael Varane to a new contract and has now set a price to sell.
Varane has a deal to 2022 and after multiple attempts to open talks about new terms, Florentino is now prepared to sell the France international, says AS via Le 10 Sport. Ideally, the president would want Varane to stay with the club long-term, but he will not consider allowing him to run down his deal and leave for nothing in the summer of 2022.
Manchester United are watching developments closely, while Chelsea were credited with interest last week.
And now it's emerged interested clubs can buy Varane this summer for a price starting at €70m.
Leaving at the end of the season, Varane will mark a decade with Real Madrid, having arrived in 2011 from Lens. This season, the defender has played 36 games, scoring twice. The stopper will turn 28 later this week.
