Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric was delighted with victory over Champions League opponents Atalanta last night.
Modrić was named Man of the Match in the contest at the Alfredo Di Stéfano and the Croatian, who completed the full 90 minutes and teed up Karim Benzema for the opening goal, reflected on the win.
"It was a really tough game. Atalanta cover a lot of ground and press you all over the pitch and right throughout the 90 minutes. We had to match them in terms of fitness and also in our play and in possession. We did all of that right from the first whistle and I'm really happy that we've progressed to the quarter-finals," he said.
“The important thing was that we got through to the last eight, which we haven't done in the last two years. We've shown tonight that there's still a lot of hunger within this team and that we want to continue to win. We're capable of going really far. The goal came at a really important time. We knew that we had to press them to score and that boosted our confidence for the rest of the game.
“I'm feeling really good. I always say that you shouldn't base things on a player's age, but rather on what they do out on the pitch. With my fitness and everything that I've achieved, I'm still hungry to perform well and compete at the highest level. I really am feeling in good shape."
