Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric isn't getting carried away with his Ballon d'Or triumph.
Not since Kaka in 2007 has another individual lifted the Ballon d'Or aside from Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, at least until Modric was given the award, yet he feels as though the duo have marked an era of the sport.
"These are two phenomena, they have played a dominant role in the sport for 10 years and that's because of their quality," he admitted.
"The Ballon d'Or is about a seasonal performance and it relies on the votes of coaches, players, legends, journalists and fans.
"If we are going to vote on the quality of players then it's necessary to immediately divide all the trophies between Messi and Ronaldo whilst they are still playing, abolishing any vote."
