Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has released a statement to fans after a disastrous seven days.

Real Madrid were eliminated from the Copa del Rey with a 3-0 defeat at home to Barcelona last Wednesday, before losing to the same opposition 1-0 in LaLiga Santander on Saturday, effectively ending their title challenge in the process.

Their disastrous seven days at the Santiago Bernabeu culminated in a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Ajax in the Champions League as they exited the competition on Tuesday.

"[This has been the] most difficult week of my career," his post on Twitter began.

"Success is not in never failing, but in rising every time you fall."
