Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric: Why should I consider retirement?

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric says retirement isn't on his mind ahead of Croatia's World Cup kickoff.

The 37 year-old says his focus is on the present.

"Honestly, I feel good," said Modric. "I play with Real Madrid almost all the time. I still feel good when I play.

"I'm here at the World Cup to continue playing, to continue enjoying football. I don't think about what will happen later. I'm looking forward to it. It's a source of pride for us to know that we have all the support from the fans.

"I haven't made a decision [about his international career] yet, I'm here to play a good tournament and that's definitely what I have in mind. We will see what we do.

"We have faith in our chances, we have to be together like in the last few games. We have to take it one game at a time, we have a tough game ahead of us, but I think we can achieve a positive result."

Cristiano Ronaldo has said that he will retire if Portugal win the World Cup, but Modric wasn't ready to make a similar promise.

"If that's what it takes for us to win, then I'll say goodbye," said Modric. "We always give everything when we wear this shirt and I hope the fans are pleased with us. We're going to give our best."
