Real Madrid midfielder Kroos questions player pay-cuts

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has questioned the push for players to take pay-cuts.

The likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have both sought government help in order to pay for salaries, but Real Madrid have not done so, although this could change in the future.

"A reduction in salary is like a donation in vain," Kroos said on the SWR Sport podcast.

"I'm in favour of paying the full salary and everyone doing sensible things with it.

"Everyone is asked to help where they are needed, and there are many places where this is necessary."

Kroos pointed to the fact that many people - clubs, players and TV companies to name just three - are unsure when football will return, but he pointed to the fact that football could be completely different if it does not get back underway until the tail end of 2020.

"Many clubs do not have a planned income [during this crisis]," he added.

"It also depends on how long everything is going to stand still for.

"If, for example, football is played again in May, solutions will surely be found.

"If it needs to stop until winter, I can imagine that some clubs [would struggle significantly].

"That would change football as we know it."
