Figo said the decision was taken because he wanted to improve in every possible way.
"When you make a change you always think it will be for the best," he told Marca. "The first logical change I made was to [change] countries. I was very young and I did it for a new experience and for more prestige.
"With the second change [Barça to Madrid], I was looking for recognition from the world of football and trying to improve in every possible way, financially and also with titles.
"And going to Inter, the next change, was in search of happiness playing football."
