Real Madrid are believed to be showing significant interest in Everton's John Stones.

Spanish publication AS reports that the Madrid giants will go after 21-year-old defender Stones if Raphael Varane happens to leave the Santiago Bernabeu for Manchester United.

France international Varane, 22, is reported to be at the top of United's defensive transfer targets and it is believed that Louis van Gaal could go after him next summer.

Stones was a key target for reigning English champions Chelsea this past summer but Everton continually knocked back their proposals to keep their prized asset.
