Real Madrid goalscorer Valverde: Leipzig players made it tough night

Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde was proud of his goalscoring performance for their Champions League defeat of RB Leipzig.

Real needed two late goals from Valverde and Marco Asensio for the 2-0 victory.

On being right footed but scoring consecutive goals with his left, Valverde joked: "I guess I'm left footed now! Look, I'm just pleased to have contributed, I'm a player who's trying to develop, to keep helping the team but it's important to keep on working on all aspects of your own game.

"That was a tough night against a good rival. It was exactly the case that we had to work and work then, eventually, after they had some opportunities we started to create second-half goal chances and when you score one of those it's a special feeling.

"Confidence is crucial in our sport and when you've got it you've got more energy, more hunger. Obviously when the ball was at my right foot, and no joking now that's my stronger, I thought about hitting it. But the defender came at me really quickly and I was sure by moving the ball to my left I could trick him and find the net inside the far post."
