Real Madrid coach Zidane satisfied after Real Sociedad draw

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane insists he was satisfied with their 0-0 draw against Real Sociedad.

Madrid kicked off their title defence in a sluggish manner, but Zidane defended the performance.

He said, "We're pleased with our performance. In general, we did well. The only thing missing was the goal and a bit of a killer instinct up top, particularly when the chances came our way. We played well in the opening 40 minutes and we failed to create openings in the second half, but, overall, we can be happy with our efforts".

"We always go out to win, so in that sense, it's a bit of a case of two points dropped, but ultimately we struggled to fashion chances, particularly in the second half. In the first half, we had three openings and lacked that killer instinct.

"We didn't change the system. It's tough because you can bring your striker off, but if you put two strikers on that changes the system and I didn't want to do that. We had to bring players on in wide areas and that's what we did. We bossed things early on. We had two or three chances and I don't think our fitness was an issue. Casemiro didn't start the game, it was a one-off thing and that's all there is to it."
