Real Madrid coach Santiago Solari defended hooking Toni Kroos in defeat to Barcelona.
Solari explained that he had faith in Fede Valverde despite his young age.
The Uruguayan was introduced in place of the German before the hour mark, despite Los Blancos having struggled to retain possession.
"Young players are pushing and football is like that," Solari explained after the match.
"Anyone can start or come on from the bench.
"With Valverde we were looking for freshness.
"People want to see new players, it's part of this club and its history."
