Real Madrid coach Ancelotti happy with Benzema deal; insists Hazard 'not scared'

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is happy with Karim Benzema's new deal.

The Frenchman put pen to paper on a contract extension until 2023 on Friday and Ancelotti spoke about the agreement for the first time in this press conference.

"He's key, it's a pleasure to train him. He's very happy, like we all are, with his renewal," Ancelotti explained.

"I see he has more personality, he's more mature, more complete, a fantastic footballer. It's a pleasure to see him train and play. I'm happy with his renewal. I think he really wants to stay at Real Madrid."

Ancelotti was also optimistic on the future of Eden Hazard, who has returned to the side for the season opener against Alaves after suffering from ongoing injuries in the 2020/21 campaign.

"Hazard isn't at his optimal level, but he's close," the Italian said. "I don't see a player scared to tackle, I see a player who wants to show his quality."
