Real Madrid GM Jorge Valdano admits Arjen Robben and Cristiano Ronaldo could not play in the same team.

Asked about selling Robben to Bayern Munich, Valdano said: "In the real world, when Cristiano Ronaldo joins your team, a player of the characteristics of Robben must make way.

"It is very difficult to have two such players in the same team, one clearly a headliner and the other a clear backup."

On Wesley Sneijder's move to Inter Milan, Valdano added: "It's better to clear up the tension in the locker room now, than allow it to simmer for three months."
