Real Madrid captain Marcelo proud to lead title celebrationsat Cibeles

Real Madrid captain Marcelo was proud to lead the title celebrations after victory over Espanyol.

He was the star of the party at Cibeles. The Real Madrid captain, who received a standing ovation at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu during and after the match, was in charge of placing the flag and scarf onto the goddess.

It is an emotional tradition that the full-back carried out alone, escorted by his teammates and all the Real Madrid fans present. On his way down, he remembered Sergio Ramos.

"It's something wonderful, it's very nice to do this is to go into the history of Real Madrid, the best club in the world," Marcelo said.

"I want to thank Sergio Ramos who took me up there once.

"This is for the fans, we won LaLiga [Santander] two years ago and we couldn't celebrate.

"Celebrating with the fans is the best thing there is, the party is theirs. This is the greatest joy a player can have, celebrating with the fans, after a home game... it's absolute joy."

With Manchester City coming in the Champions League semi-final second leg on Wednesday, Marcelo knows that the players can't celebrate too much. He stressed, though, that Saturday was a day to recognise their title success.

"Today is a day to celebrate," Marcelo said. "But we know that we have an important match ahead of us, it's okay if we celebrate well today."
