Real Madrid have beaten Barcelona to the signing Tenerife striker Cristo Gonzalez.

Don Balon says the 19 year-old attacker had been in advanced negotiations with Barcelona for much of the year.

However, Real have stepped in and struck terms with Gonzalez and Tenerife about a deal.

Gonzalez will initially join Castilla, but with assurances he will train with Zinedine Zidane's first team this season.

Real are coughing up €500,000 to take the player off Tenerife's hands.
