Real Madrid and Benzema to learn extent of hamstring injury

Real Madrid are hopeful of Karim Benzema's hamstring injury not being serious.

Real have concerns over Benzema's workload and overall fitness, with the French forward succumbing to a hamstring ailment against Elche, although the player himself remains optimistic, says Marca.

As soon as the second half began, Benzema was seen holding his hamstring, with discomfort in the back of his thigh preventing him from continuing in the match.

An MRI is due to take place on Tuesday morning to determine the extent of the damage to the former Lyon goalscorer's thigh, and that will shed more light on the situation.

The hope is that Benzema will be in the best possible condition to face Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Champions League tie between the Ligue 1 leaders and Los Blancos.

There is now a week without a LaLiga Santander fixture for Benzema to recover, before the Copa del Rey tie against Athletic Club at Estadio San Mames.
