Arsenal circle as Fekir recalls: What Klopp told me about joining Liverpool

Real Betis midfielder Nabil Fekir has recalled his failed move to Liverpool.

Fekir was on his way to Liverpool from Lyon in 2018 only for the Reds to pull out of the deal claiming a failed medical.

Fekir's camp disputed Liverpool's stand at the time and a year later he was signing for Betis.

“I had met the coach (Jürgen Klopp)," recalled Fekir to beIN Sports via Le 10 Sport.

"He told me that he was counting on me, to get me signed, to help me progress. Shortly after, it was a regret, but today there are no problems."

Fekir has proved his fitness and form at Real Betis, where his impact has seen him maintain his place in Didier Deschamps' World Cup winning France squad. The midfielder is now in the mix to make Les Bleus' Euros team this summer.

Indeed, such has been his form that he is again being linked with a Premier League move, where this time Arsenal are taking a close look. The Gunners see Fekir as an alternative to Martin Odegaard should the Norway captain's parent club Real Madrid refuse to sell him.

So far this season, Fekir has managed 34 appearances, scoring four goals and producing six assists. He has a contract at Real Betis to 2023.
