Real Betis chief Catalan: No early Barcelona option for Emerson

Real Betis chief Jose Miguel Lopez Catalan has spoken about the contractual situation of Brazilian full-back Emerson.

The 20-year-old's rights were purchased by Barcelona for €12m from Atletico Mineiro earlier in the year and half of these rights were sold to Real Betis. The agreement is for the player to play for Betis until the summer of 2021, at which point Barcelona will decide if they want to sign him.

"There is no clause through which the player can leave for Barcelona, any information saying that isn't correct," Catalan told Radio MARCA when asked about the possibility of the Blaugrana unilaterally acquiring Emerson before the agreed date.

"We have a relationship with Barcelona and speak about Emerson and how he is doing each week.

"They come to see all his matches, but there was never any chance of him leaving in the past transfer market.

"He can't leave in the winter market either.

"We would have to negotiate that."
