Reading close to deal for Nwoko

Reading are on the brink of signing Malta international midfielder Udo Nwoko from Portuguese side Leixoes.

Nwoko, who was born in Nigeria, has undergone a medical with the Premier League side and the two clubs have agreed a fee, believed to be in the region of £550,000.

Royals boss Steve Coppell made his move after sending scouts to watch the highly-rated Nwoko in a number of matches this season, with the player set to sign a three-year contract.

Leixoes president Carlos Oliveira said: "The deal is practically done."

Nwoko told the Portuguese press: "I know the Premier League from the games I have seen on television and it is sensational to play there.

"I am very excited and I understand that Reading are a battling club, which will be perfect for my game."
