Reading boss Steve Coppell is targeting two midfield signings.
Coppell told the club's website: "You're never happy with your squad. You look at United, they were champions and they added players, we have to do that too.
"I don't want much though, I don't want to destroy the strength and chemistry that has carried us for the last two years.
"I want one more. Most teams in the Premier League have got two teams, so I probably want one more central midfielder.
"And then, depending on Glen Little's injury, we might look at another wide player.
"Glen's a cause for concern, he's going nowhere. He gets to a level then falls back again.
"He's got no chance at all of making the start of the season, and that's the concern. He did it in April.
"If he doesn't improve in the next couple of weeks we might look to another wide player, with a question about Bobby Convey's fitness too."
