AS Roma coach Claudio Ranieri welcomed their 5-1 thrashing by Cagliari as a needed result.
Roma hadn't lost 5-1 in Serie A since January 6 1949 away to Lucchese, while they have just one point after two rounds.
"Conceding five goals always hurts, but it's better than it happened now," argued the Coach.
"This might be the kick in the backside we need. The team is there, but we have to look each other in the eyes and dig deep within ourselves.
"We did try to get back into the game, but when you concede four goals from set plays, it means you aren't very concentrated.
"Cagliari did well to parry our scoring opportunities, whereas we did not."
