Former Rangers star Billy Dodds has backed Barry Ferguson for a successful move to Birmingham City.

In his column for the Scottish Sun, "Having played alongside him I know what he's capable of.

"I know how good a player he is.

"And believe me, don't believe the doubters.

"Fergie is still a class act and he would more than hold his own down south.

"Brum boss McLeish deployed him as a sitting midfielder when they were at Ibrox together and for me that remains Ferguson's best position. Eck needs to strengthen his midfield area. He needs a player with experience.

"A player who can go to Old Trafford, Anfield and The Emirates and won't be afraid of taking the ball. Fergie ticks all the boxes.

"Who knows, we could be about to witness the rebirth of Barry Ferguson."
