Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has admitted his admiration for Ibrox hero Andrei Kanchelskis.

Gerrard revealed the only downside to the Russian's career was that he didn't play for Liverpool.

“Yes, I watched him a lot," he said.

“He was a fantastic player, but unfortunately he was fantastic for Manchester United and Everton against Liverpool.

"But he's a player I have enormous respect for and looked up to because he was very quick and a very exciting player.

“So I got on very well with a fantastic player.

“And also he did very well for Rangers as well."
