QPR signing Spurs playmaker Taarabt for cut-price fee

QPR are signing Tottenham midfielder Adel Taarabt on the cheap.

The London Evening Standard says the deal is thought to be worth an initial £600,000 but could rise to £1m based on performance criteria. Whatever the final figure, the transfer represents a significant loss for Spurs on a player they had high hopes for.

Taarabt was signed from RC Lens in 2007 for £3m, but he struggled to make an impact under successive managers Martin Jol, Juande Ramos and Harry Redknapp and made a total of just nine Premier League appearances.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy had originally wanted as much as £4m for the talented 21-year-old, who was once dubbed 'the new Zinedine Zidane', but Redknapp had no plans for the enigmatic character and the club have had to lower their valuation in order to get the player off their books.
