The talented 22-year-old winger joined the Saints from Norwich City earlier this summer and his new manager suggests the £10million arrival possesses the ability become a quality striker, just as Thierry Henry did with Arsenal.
"Redmond is a good player. I can see a player lots of qualities and for me it's a pity to leave him on the right," said Puel.
"I can see in the future he can play in as a striker.
"Redmond and Thierry are two different players but I see similarities between them. They have the ability to shoot with their right foot and to curl the ball."
Puel also implored his fellow Frenchman Henry to give some helpful advice to Redmond as the England U21 international strives to become a key player at St Mary's.
"Thierry is a man with big passion for football," he added.
"He can give good possibilities to Redmond. They are two players with the same possibilities."
