PSG defender David Luiz insists Chelsea never wanted to sell him. But even though the Stamford Bridge club had offered him a new contract, Luiz knew he had to go where he would feel "really valued".
He told the Daily Express: "Chelsea offered me a new contract but I also knew that PSG wanted me - and as soon as I knew that I wanted to leave.
"I was in Brazil at the time and Mourinho said it was OK, I could leave if the valuation was met.
"Chelsea wanted me to stay - that is why they offered me a new contract - but I did not feel so much at home like I did two or three seasons before.
"I left on good terms but I knew it was time for a new challenge. There were stories about Mourinho and I falling out, but he will tell you they are not true.
"We were never close - that is not his style - but there was and is a mutual professional respect.
"The truth is I did not take long to decide on PSG. I enjoyed my time at Chelsea but I knew it was time to move on.
"I spoke with Thiago Silva, and after that conversation I knew that PSG were the right club for me. I am at a club where I know I am really valued and where I can win major trophies."
