PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino's personal intervention has managed to convince Gini Wijnaldum to choose Paris over Barcelona.

Off contract in June from Liverpool, Wijnaldum is now set to sign with PSG in a Bosman deal after months of negotiations with Barca.

It's been suggested PSG will double Wijnaldum's Reds contract to bring him to Paris, though the presence of Pochettino is also a factor.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Pochettino told Wijnaldum in a call: "I wanted you 5 years ago when I was at Tottenham. Join me at PSG.

"We have a huge opportunity to be together."
