PSG chief Leonardo on Mbappe: Real Madrid tapping up must be punished

Paris Saint Germain chief Leonardo says Real Madrid should be sanctioned over their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe.

The Brazilian has effectively accused Real Madrid of tapping up Mbappe via the media after the comments made by Real Madrid directors and players about their striker for much of the year.

Mbappe broke his silence last week on the saga, admitting he'd pushed to leave PSG in July. Real Madrid had offers of €160m and €180m turned down by PSG in the final days of the summer market, so leaving Mbappe in Paris and frustrated.

"From Madrid they deny it, but I think Real Madrid have been working to buy Mbappe [as a free agent] for a long time," Leonardo, quoted by Marca, said at the Festivo dello Sport event in Milan.

"For two years they have been speaking publicly about Mbappe. This must be punished.

"From Real Madrid I see a lack of respect for Mbappe. He is not a normal player, he is one of the best in the world.

"The coach, the board, Real Madrid players spoke about Kylian. I think it's part of their plan. It's not respectful."

With his contract winding down, Leonardo also insisted that the Parisian club have no intention of selling the young forward. The January market remaining the final chance for the French giants to cash in before he leaves for nothing in June. However, despite the situation, Leonardo insists the striker will be held to his contract.

"Our idea is to extend Kylian Mbappe's contract," Leonardo insisted.

"Nothing has changed in our plans. Kylian is a jewel, he is absolutely perfect for PSG.

"We'll then have Kylian, Leo [Messi], Ney. We've never planned PSG's future without Mbappe."
