PSG manager Luis Ferrer has revealed how they burned off competition from Real Madrid to land Kylian Mbappe two summers ago.
PSG landed Mbappe from AS Monaco for a fee of €180m and Ferrer admits they were forced to work overtime to beat Real to the youngster's signature.
He told Infobae: "We had to work twice as hard as Real Madrid for Mbappé. We went to his house, we talked to his parents, we showed him the project ... We had to do a lot of things to show them that we really wanted him, that we would play him, that he was important for us.
"Fortunately, Kylian believed us and we were able to complete the operation. When they called with (Zinedine) Zidane and Real Madrid, who had won two Champions League at the time, it was very difficult to think that we would convince him and his family.
"One morning, I took the plane to have breakfast with his family and tell them he had to stay in France. We had to convince them that it was not the moment for him to leave the country. Our argument was to have him stay in France, to show that he had time to experience a career abroad."
