Promoted Benevento eyeing free agent Daniel Sturridge

Promoted Benevento are eyeing free agent Daniel Sturridge.

The Serie B champions are looking to strengthen their squad as they prepare for their return to the top flight next season.

They had lined up a deal for former Chelsea and QPR striker Loic Remy but he failed a medical and they have turned attention to 30-year-old former Liverpool striker Sturridge, says the Daily Mail.

Their interest was confirmed by club president Oreste Vigorito who said: 'Sturridge would be an honour for any Italian team.'

Coached by former Juventus and AC Milan striker Pippo Inzaghi, Benevento are keen to bring in experienced players and have also asked about Fernando Llorente.

Sturridge will assess all of his options and take time over his next career decision after initiating talks to leave Trabzonspor by mutual consent earlier in the season.
