Manchester United fullback Alvaro Fernandez has won praise from teammates at loan club Preston North End.

Preston duo Emil Riis and Ryan Lowe have praised Fernandez after his performance against West Brom.

The 19-year-old defender grabbed the game-winning assist against Steve Bruce's side at Deepdale as Lowe's men secured a 1-0 victory in midweek.

He was awarded the man-of-the-match award, with his individual showing leading to complements from Preston striker Riis and manager Lowe.

Speaking after Preston's win, Riis said: "It was a great cross and he's a brilliant player. He just needs to keep going."

Lowe added: "Ball slid in, Emil in the right place where I'm going to say he probably would be just outside the six-yard box in the last few weeks because he's been hungry for a goal.

"I said get yourself in the right areas and you'll find the net because we've got good players like Alvaro who can put balls on a plate for you, and he certainly did that tonight, so I'm really pleased."
