Serie A president Gaetano Micciche has denied reports that top-flight games could play in China in the near future, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.
The news came after Reuters reported on Friday that Serie A would be holding discussions with Chinese officials regarding the option.
Whilst Micciche played down the notion of China playing host to league fixtures, he was more open to the idea that Italian domestic cup matches in the Coppa Italia could be played abroad.
"I don't think it's a road we can travel in the next few years," said Micchiche. "We could discuss the Supercup or some Coppa Italia matches."
Aurelio De Laurentiis, president of Serie A club Napoli had thrown his weight behind playing games abroad.
"The month of August could be a good opportunity to play a few Serie A games around Europe," he said. "It wouldn't be a betrayal of the fans, because at the end of the day most of them would be at the beach and far away from their home towns."
