PREMIER LEAGUE: West Brom continue winning form at Wigan

West Bromwich Albion have continued their solid beginning to the campaign with a 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium today.

Albion consolidated their spot in fifth place thanks to James Morrison's 31st minute header and Gary Caldwell's own-goal before Arouna Kone grabbed one back for the Latics with all goals coming in the first half.

The Baggies took the lead just after the half-hour mark when Morrison got on the end of Chris Brunt's pinpoint delivery from the left to hammer a header past Ali Al Habsi from the edge of the six-yard box.

Steve Clarke's men then went two ahead in the 43rd minute when Billy Jones' low cross form the right was inadvertently knocked into the back of the net by Latics skipper Caldwell.

However, Wigan gave themselves hope minutes later when Kone was johnny-on-the-spot at the backpost to slide home Jean Beausejour's low cross which had evaded all in the box.

Early in the second half, Al Habsi did brilliantly well to tip over Romelu Lukaku's shot on the turn whilst Shaun Maloney could have levelled for Wigan in the 72nd minute but struck over the bar.

In the end though, Albion made it six wins from 11 outings to kick off the season whilst Wigan dropped to 14th following their two-game winning streak.
