Mainz 05 general manager Christian Heidel believes the exorbitant wages being paid by Premier League clubs for 'mediocre players' will come back to bite English football's top flight.
Heidel told German publication Bild he believes the English market will collapse 'within two or three years' as a result of the extravagant spending.
"There's never been as many offers from the Premier League as in this summer. And every time, it came down to the wages," Heidel said.
"In my opinion, the English market will collapse within two or three years. (Premier League clubs) are paying crazy wages for mediocre players, and that means that they will struggle to get rid of those players in the future.
"They buy more players every year, and eventually, the squads will become too big. They will end up spending more on redundancies than they do on transfers."
The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Son Heung-min, Roberto Firmino, Baba Rahman, Shinji Okazaki, Valon Behrami and Kevin Wimmer all joined English clubs from the Bundesliga this past summer.
