The Premier League is being put under pressure to launch an independent investigation into referee Jon Moss' actions during the Liverpool vs Tottenham clash on Monday night.
The 2-2 draw was marred in controversy as Moss awarded two late contentious penalties to Spurs.
A microphone picked up Moss asking fourth-official Martin Atkinson if he saw Dejan Lovren play Harry Kane onside before he was fouled by Loris Karius.
He was heard saying: "Martin, have you got anything from TV?"
The action was illegal as the Video Assistant Referee system was not in use.
Professional Game Match Officials Ltd produced a statement yesterday, admitting that Moss had made a 'misguided' decision to speak with Atkinson.
However, some have argued the investigation must go further.
The Professional Game Match Officials Ltd's former General Manager, Keith Hackett, told the Telegraph: "A more detailed investigation needs to take place, independent of the PGMOL, to determine why Jon Moss referenced specifically his fourth official and television.
"They can't just dismiss it as a slip of the tongue. That's glossing over."
