The Premier League is coming to terms with the threat of legal action regarding relegation.
There were reports in the British press that the league was considering removing the threat of relegation for the rest of the season.
But it appears they could face lawsuits from the Championship, where teams like West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United are waiting to get promoted.
TV companies may also not be happy as it would reduce viewership among fans of teams that are in the bottom half of the table.
"The Premier League is aware of our position on that. Lawyers are going to get wealthy [if the Premier League opted not to relegate three teams]," English Football League chief Rick Parry said in front of the government's Digital, Culture, Media and Sport committee.
"There would be a degree of outrage from a number of clubs in the Championship and it would be a breach of the tripartite agreement."
